| RegulatingThe ERA is committed to protecting the rights of electricity Consumers in the Cayman Islands through a comprehensive regulatory framework. In accordance with the Electricity Regulatory Authority Law (2010 Revision), the ERA performs the following regulatory functions: 
Grants, renews, modifies, suspends or revokes licences for generation and transmission and distribution of electricity Promotes sustainable competition in the electricity industry in the Cayman Islands by prohibiting anticompetitive agreements, arrangements and practices relating to generation, transmission and distribution of electricity Issues fines to licensees for failing to comply with the ERA Law or any terms, conditions or requirements of the licensees’ generation or transmission and distribution licences Promotes reliable and efficient service from each licensee via performance standards Promotes the use of renewable energy Conducts a competitive solicitation process for additional generating capacity |
